Terror In Northern Uganda

The Lord's Resistance Army, led by Joseph Kony, has sought to gain control of Northern Uganda. These rebels have abducted school children, forcing them to observe or participate in the killing of family members. The girls are used as sex slaves, the boys driven into being brutal killers. Over one million people have fled their homes, often living in cramped and isolated refugee camps. Now the LRA activities have moved into neighbouring Congo, bringing a relative period of calm to the North of Uganda. However until the LRA is disbanded no guarantee can be given that this time of relative stability will continue. In the past there have been many attempts to negotiate peace pacts between the government and the LRA, but none has proven long lasting.
